Scotland's Summer of Love

Whilst San Francisco’s Summer of Love was only in the planning in 1966, Scotland’s very own, wonderful, “Summer of Love” had already been in motion throughout 1966. As a member of a new Scottish Soul band, along with a few other new Scottish groups, some of whom would go on became very famous indeed [Nazareth, Marmalade and the Average White Band etc] we were happy to have had the opportunity to record down in London on the Polydor Records label via Scottish subsidiary, the ALP record label. Like many other new Scottish bands The Hi Fi Combo also supported so many top bands on their Scottish gigs, so I suppose we too became a part of that Scotland "Summer of Love, 1966".

                                                                               * * * * *

My film fondly recalls with great affection the people who made it happen for me, many that I didn’t get the chance to thank. I list here within this film or other web pages, those I gigged with or met, famous and not quite so much, plus many of the towns I gigged within both Scotland and Germany. I also recall, of course, the fabulous swinging 60's music that has endured, as has my friendship with many of the Scottish guys in the bands we bumped into on the road, as it were. So, here, via memorabilia, is my recollection of that truly vibrant Scottish pop music scene almost 60 years ago. I do have to say, however, my film does have a rather poignant conclusion, the demise of 'pirate' Radio Scotland 242 in 1966 which I firmly believe also irripairably harmed Scotland's live pop scene in the late sixties.
